Teachers from Ormesby School, Middlesbrough to climb Mt. Everest for teacher's lounge improvements

TEACHERS from Ormesby School will prove they have a head for heights as they take on a mountainous challenge.

The team of school staff and friends is planning to attempt a winter climb of Mt. Everest.

Funds raised will go only to improve the teacher's lounge in the school, with new comfortable seating arrangements, as well as a high definition TV, new water coolers, new tables. Not only that but they are hoping they will rake in enough money to buy some of those really comfortable black leather chairs that vibrate, you know the ones I mean, you see them quite often in airports.

The project was set up by school staff who were sick of the current teacher's lounge which isn't that great.

“Ormesby School has decided to raise money to improve the teacher's lounge. Basically every day Monday to Friday we have to sit there for an entire day teaching useless, annoying delinquents who will never amount to anything in life and we need a place to escape from all of that.” said Steve Burrows, school headteacher.

Steve said the project is only in interest of the staff and they could care less about the pupils.

Since fundraising began a year ago, staff have raised £6,500 through a series of events from baking cakes to washing cars. That money has already enabled work to begin with redecoration of the south wall in the lounge. Every penny goes to the redevelopment of the teacher's lounge.

Climbing Mt. Everest, on March 2, will be their toughest challenge yet, All money raised will go to the redevelopment and redecoration of the teacher's lounge as well as addition of new features such as seating and the television.

Making the climb will be English teacher, Trevor Williams and colleagues Phil Tilson, Stephen Smithies, Rob Ivey and Paul Boult and friends Matt Case and Rayees Rashid. Trevor said: “We all realize we are risking our lives here and will probably die while climbing the mountain, but at least we'll get away from the students for a while. Of course if in the unfortunate event we do make it back alive at least we'll have a nice new teacher's lounge to look forward to.”

To make a donation to the new lounge make cheques out to Ormesby School and post them to Ormesby School, Tothill Avenue, Netherfields, Middlesbrough, TS3 0RH.
