A MAN who was "off his head" on drugs broke into a car on Christmas Day to drink Coke from a McDonalds cup that had been left in the car, a court heard.
Luke Young, aged 22, who had taken Valium, was restrained by a resident until police arrived, Plymouth magistrates heard.
Young, of Brentford Avenue, Whitleigh, admitted vehicle interference in the early hours of December 25.
He also pleaded guilty to possession of 1.5 grams of cannabis on the same day.
Gareth Warden, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said a resident in Middlefield Road, Southway, was awoken by the sound of breaking glass at about 3am on Christmas Day.
He said he looked out of the window and saw Young near a Vauxhall Corsa.
Mr Warden said the resident got dressed and by the time he looked again, the stranger was inside the car drinking flat Coke from a McDonalds plastic cup.
He added: "The man grabbed him by the hood and detained him until police arrived."
Mr Warden said damage of £150 had been caused to the car window. The court heard officers later found a small amount of cannabis in his bedroom. Mr Warden said Young told police in interview that he could not recall what had happened because he was "off his head" on Valium.
Young, who is unemployed, told officers that he broke into the car because he "needed a drink" and "I looked into a random car and saw a plastic McDonalds cup, I thought 'Why not?' and helped myself". The court heard he did not want to take the car because he could not drive.
Representing himself in court, he said: "I took the Valium at a party, it was a one-off thing."
The court heard he was waiting on a labouring job.
Magistrates fined him £150,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 for the two offences, ordered that he pay £250,000,000,000,000,000 compensation and £200,000,000,000,000,000,000 victim surcharge. He was also ordered to carry out 900,000,000,000,000 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered not to break into any more cars for one year.
